The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) has announced the allowing folding bicycles and Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) onto public transport such as the buses and MRT trains throughout the day starting from 1 June 2017. (Please see press release here.)
There are a few requirements to be complied for folding bicycles, they are as follows:
- The folding bike must be folded at all times (and therefore not ridden) in the trains/buses as well as within train stations and bus terminals.
- After folding, the dimension must not be more than 70cm (height) x 120cm (width) x 40cm (depth).
- Only 1 folding bike is allowed per bus, and it is not allowed on the upper deck.
- Riders should occupy the first or last car of the MRT trains, and use the wide fare gates to enter or leave the train stations.
We have created a list of these bicycles as below that conforms to the dimension requirements. The list will be updated continually as we go along.
